Dalcroze Eurhythmics, an education beyond expectations
Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a practice that can be applied as a music education, but it can also enrich a wide range of applications thanks to the use of music and movement. Marie-Laure Bachmann underlines this concept by the title of her book called “Dalcroze Today: An Education Through and into Music”.
During this lecture, the vision of the international centre of the Jaques-Dalcroze method, the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze (ijd) in Geneva, will be shared in three ways. Firstly, by the variety of activities that are nowadays explored in the department “Eurhyhtmics and health”, including the research inventory. Secondly, by the presentation of one piano program offered at the ijd, using improvisation and group learning process. Finally, some relevant Dalcroze techniques will be outlined for the management of teams or artistic projects.
The Dalcroze community is facing a pivotal period in the evolution of the Jaques-Dalcroze method. Currently, practitioners are fortunate to work alongside people who knew Mr. Jaques, meaning that the lineage is still direct. Knowing that principles are transmitted through practice, it is necessary to promote this heritage in order to ensure the maintenance of quality and generate collective awareness.
